Today was a long day of hiking with extremly knee straining paths. After 5 hrs continuously going up – first through the woods than through the rocks – we made it to the steep rim of the “Forcella de Zita Sud” which was on the one side in the sun while the other was all covered in fog. There finally, after so many days in the mountains, I saw the famous “Edelweiß”, yay! Now going down through screefields and rocky paths we arrived after 7 hours of hiking at the “Rifugio Pian de Fontana” where we decided not to stay but to continue to the pretty basic “Rifugio Bianchet“; though that meant another 2 hrs downward. Arriving at the Rifugio I was completely groggy, my knee and feet hurt like hell – I walked like a 80 year old, and I wondered how I shell ever make the most ambitious stage of all: crossing the “Schiara” the next day…
Highlight of the day
Finally seeing the famous and strictly protected mountain flower “Edelweiß” (and resisting from picking one).
